Songs: You'll Always Be My Baby Brother (even though you're six foot three)
notes / gigs / releasesI have tried to reconcile the image in my mind
Of you sniffing daffodils when you were only five
But now you're turning 17 and you're much bigger than me
But you'll always be my Baby Brother, even though you're six foot three
You used to look up to me, i was some sort of God
But now i'm an embarrassment who hasn't got a proper job
While you are working Saturdays you'll learn PAYE
But you'll always be my Baby Brother, even though you're six foot three
One night i thought i saw your friends
But they were nearly full-grown men
And see my horror as i saw
That you would not be sated with Ribena anymore
When i was your age you were six, and it doesn't take a MIGHTY BRANE
To do the maths, but instead i'll pass and get you all another drink again
I guess one day I'll have to face my own mortality
Or you'll always be my Baby Brother, even though you're six foot three

At the Peterborough Beer Festival one year, as i wandered about failing to bump into people i knew at school, a VAST SHADOW loomed out of the crowd at me, clutching a pint, and LO! it was my ickle baby brother. He is very tall, but it was a bit scary being confronted with this fact, basically in THE PUB, as i normally carry around an image of him as a WEE BABY sniffing daffodils, as recorded in one of those Photographs that sum you up to yr whole family forever (mine features me aged about 10 in a Snorkel Jacket, squinting).
I recorded this one during the sessions for Say It With Words but it did really badly in The Focus Group so instead I burnt it to CD and gave it to the aforementioned brother as a birthday present. He seemed quite pleased!
