Songs: The Black Hair And Glasses Brigade

notes / gigs / releases

We are The Black Hair And Glasses Brigade
We are told that we all look the same
We are tired of this ignorance
We will take over planet Earth

We are The Black Hair And Glasses Brigade
We are The Black Hair And Glasses Brigade
We are The Black Hair And Glasses Brigade
We are wearers of glasses

How many times have you said that you know someone like me?
How many times have you seen someone like me on TV?
How many times has a humorous confusion arose
Just because of the optical device on my nose?

We are The Black Hair And Glasses Brigade
We are The Black Hair And Glasses Brigade
We are The Black Hair And Glasses Brigade
We are wearers of glasses

We are here for your women and your water
We'll interfere with the eyesight of your daughter
Roland Browning and Adrian Mole will be seen

As the models of a new myopic humanity
We are The Black Hair And Glasses Brigade
We are The Black Hair And Glasses Brigade
We are The Black Hair And Glasses Brigade
We are wearers of glasses

The noises at the start of this are me listening to Praise The Traffice Warden whilst washing up (noisily) in my flat in Leicester. We had everything else on the album, I thought I'd put The Kitchen Sink in too...

This is based on something people have ALWAYS said to me: "I know somebody who looks just like you" and end up being introduced to some other poor sod who gets told it just because he has black hair and glasses. I got a bit fed up with it, so wrote a song.

My main memory of recording it is The Durham Ox Singers getting a bit over-excited at rapping - Mr F Machine suggested the "We! Are!" bits - which comes across quite nicely I think. We used to start our band sets with this song all the time when the album came out, it was a MANIFESTO!
