The Last Working Day Of The Month: Issue 36

< issue 35 issue 37 >
(MJ Hibbett & The Validators FACT, January 31st 2008 )

Hello all, and welcome to this first newsletter of 2008 - it feels like AGES since we were last together in this way, so let's CRACK ON shall we?

GIGS TO COME

This month I shall be distributing my ROCK to the following places:

Saturday February 9 - The Albany, London
(On about 10pm at the London Loves club night)

Friday February 22 - Firebug, Leicester
(Supporting Neck at Steve McHaggis's Birthday do)

Check http://www.mjhibbett.net/gigs/gigs.htm for further details.

GIGS WE'VE DONE

I played my 60th gig of 2007 at The Fox in Lewisham, where a lovely time was only ENHANCED by the Traditional Loonie who wanted to get on stage and "do a few Dylan numbers" during my set. This ALWAYS happens at The Fox.

As for 2008, if it continues like this it'll be the best year EVER for gigs, as BOTH so far have been FANTASTIC. I did a Totally Acoustic night a couple of weeks ago which featured not only the marvellous Sunny Intervals but also a Ukelele FLASH MOB halfway through my first set - this came as some surprise to me. Then this weekend me, Tim and The Tiger had a BRILLIANT night out in Durham playing with the MIGHTY Pete Green. We had a SOIREE afterwards, and next day visited the Cathedral: NONE MORE ROCK.

RECORDS

After a period of quiet we've FLOWN into action with a SLEW of Recording Sessions. It looks like we've got ALL the rythm tracks done for the next album and are busily OVERDUBBING away. If all goes to plan the first FRUITS of our labours should be released in April as a VINYL SINGLE, with "Do The Indie Kid" as the A Side. More news, when it happens!

OTHER THINGS

The "My Exciting Life In Rock" BLOG is THUNDERING along at http://www.popartlondon.co.uk/digest/?cat=14, and is being updated every Tuesday and Thursday - I'm REALLY enjoying this, but not many people seem to be visiting, so if anyone can PIMP IT OUT a bit I'd be very grateful!

Meanwhile preparations are in hand for my EDINBURGH SHOW, with myself and Stage Manager Carsmile Steve hoping to head NORTH in a couple of weeks to CASE OUT venues. If you have a myspace account and some TIME, please pop along to http://www.myspace.com/myexcitinglifeinrock and befriend us!

And finally, we've been awarded some AWARDS! "A Million Ukeleles" was named Best International Concept Album by New York's Radio Crystal Blue, and "The Lesson Of The Smiths" has been nominated for Best International Single by is this music? magazine. Even more exciting, that same song made it to number 41 in this year's Festive Fifty on Dandelion Radio. If you voted for us, thanks very much INDEED, we were well chuffed!

And that's about your lot for this month - thanks for listening, and see you next time!

Cheers,

Mark
