Songs: Give Us A Kiss (for Christmas)

notes / gigs / releases

Give us a kiss for Christmas
Give us a kiss for Christmas

I don't want a card this year and I don't want a present
All I want's a kiss from you, cos that will last for ever

Give us a kiss for Christmas
Give us a kiss for Christmas

Well if Santa tied you in a bow and left you neath the mistletoe
Would I love you more in the snow? I don't know, so

Give us a kiss for Christmas
Give us a kiss for Christmas

CHRISTMAS!
Give us a kiss for Christmas
Give us a kiss for Christmas

This is a combination of TWO seperate THEMES in my OUVRE: Attempted Christmas Hits and Songs Under 60 Seconds. It succeeded in neither case, as when we recorded it we stuck that lovely acoustical intro on at the start, just because it seemed like a good idea. It's nice, isn't it?

We had a thoroughly lovely time recording this, it was some time in October I think so we brought mince pies and tinsel and stuff in with us to get the atmosphere, and did the whole thing in one go, with GRATE IDEAS flowing like MULLED WINE, we had bells, acoustic intros, trumpets, "CHRIIISTMAAAAS" and a half-hearted "Merry Christmas" all chucked in at various points. I wanted to make the whole thing as lively, FUN-PACKED, and exciting as possible, i think we did quite well!

I'd written the songs long before we recorded it when I was messing about with writing songs really quickly, recording them, and then leaving it there, but dug it out again when we got to be on the Stereorrifc Chrismas Compilation. We learnt the song on the night we recorded it and then played it at our very next gig (when only 2 people turned up, I seem to recall) and liked it SO VERY MUCH that we decided we'd release it as a sort of Chrismas Single on Milk & Baubles. WISELY we paired it up with Easily Impressed and a ton of other songs so it could be sold outside of Christmas, just in case it wasn't Christmas Number One. As it turned out, this was a very wise precaution INDEED.
