But Which Doom's Day?

< previous next >
I woke up on Sunday morning to the incredible news that Robert Downey Jr is going to be playing Doctor Doom. I didn't see that one coming!

I'm obviously really excited to see how this all works out, and even more thrilled to see that the next Avengers movie has been re-titled "Avengers: Doomsday" as it raises the question of which version of Doomsday is going to be adapted. Everyone seems to think it's going to be the classic storyline that began in Fantastic Four #59 where Doom steals the power cosmic from the Silver Surfer - and that seems possible, as they've already cast Julia Garner as an MCU Surfer - but there's plenty of other choices.

For example, there's the amazing/awful Dr. Doom's Day in the Marvel Superheroes cartoon series, the hilarious Day Of Doom in Spider Super Stories, or John Byrne's Three Against Doomsday in FF #259. There's even a ready-made novelisation, written by none other than Marv Wolfman!

I have a sneaking suspicion that they'll just use the title - it's a great title! - and do something more in line with the second version of "Secret Wars", but whichever they choose I am VERY excited to see it, not least because it means that people will FINALLY know who I've been going on about for all these years!

Comments:

The Marvel Doomsday novelization (1981) was my first formal introduction to Doom as a real character as opposed to the Filmation Animation baddie. Marv knocked it out of the ballpark! Would be an awesome choice for a project.
